July 4th - Live your Liberty, don't lose it in a History Book.

Live your Liberty, don't lose it in a History Book.

Keri and I invite you again to listen to the three live dramatic "radio play" podcasts based upon letters and documents from the lead up to the American Declaration of Independence. You can hear readings from our nation's past which directly reflect upon our nation's present and future.

Part 1 Prelude to a Revolution
Part 2 Spring 1775, The Cost of Liberty
Part 3 "Our Lives, our Fortunes and our sacred Honor"

We began these series of live dramatized readings two years ago as our Nation approached it's "birthday". It struck us that the situations and the causes of the American Revolution were as alive today as they had been to our countries' forefathers:
Polarization of political speech, leaders quashing dissent in the press, the imprisonment or detaining of persons without trial or hearing, and the removing of "undesirable persons" to offshore prisons.

The political climate may be changing, but :

"The cause of America and of liberty is the cause of every virtuous American Citizen Whatever may be his Religion or his descent, the United Colonies know no distinction, but such as Slavery, Corruption and Arbitrary Domination may create. Come then ye generous Citizens, range yourselves under the Standard of general Liberty, against which all the force and Artifice of Tyranny will never be able to prevail. I am,
Go Washington"

As people around the world struggle for representative governments, let us not forget that our own democracy was born of decades of economic and violent unrest. The course of freedom seldom runs smoothly. May those who seek the rights of self-expression, self-governance, and liberty find in the voices here, words to encourage their own endeavors.

M67 Final California Channel Island Fox Release

Photos and text by Keri Dearborn

In the past few weeks, 31 island foxes from the Santa Rosa Island breeding facility have been returned to the wild.

November 7, 2008 - as Pat Meyer and Friends of the Island Fox, Inc. board members and members of the press looked on, National Park Service biologist Tim Coonan opened the door to freedom for M67. The little 6 year-old male fox was born in the captive breeding facility and over the years had been paired with several females. Now, he sat gazing at the wide open expanse around him.

After a quick look over his shoulder, the little island fox bounded off through the low bushes. As he disappeared over a small hill, we heard the hardy beep, beep, beep of the signal from his radio tracking collar. This historic little fox has returned to the wild wearing a radio collar funded by donations to Friends of the Island Fox.

Congratulations to the Channel Islands National Park, NPS staff, vets, techs, friends,
and the Friends of the Island Fox, Inc

Sounds of an Eclipse! Mongolia Aug. 01, 2008

Sound Snack for August, 2008

Winds in the Gobi Desert

"Gobi" translates from Mongolian as овь, Govi or Gov', meaning, gravel-covered plain.

We traveled to the Gobi desert after viewing the Total Solar Eclipse of August 01, 2008 in the Altai Mountains.

The winds really can bluster up quickly.

It howls across any man made structure.

Keri in front of our "ger".
The "ger" camps are like a travelers tent hotel.
